Department of Aquaculture

The Department of Aquaculture has two main branches: the Aquaculture Department and the Diseases Department.

Aquaculture Department

The Aquaculture Department offers courses on fish, mollusk, crustacean, and arthropod Aquaculture, as well as plankton culture, fish feeding and feed technology, and the planning of production facilities. These courses cover both freshwater and marine environments, including alternative species.

The Aquaculture Department contributes to the education of producers and entrepreneurs, providing scientific support for problem-solving. It also aims to train students equipped with knowledge and skills in Aquaculture, to meet the needs of our country in this field.

Diseases Department

The Diseases Department focuses on the detection and diagnosis of diseases in cultured fish, using current approaches. It also conducts studies on diseases and general health conditions of fish species in natural environments, not limited to those raised in Aquaculture. The department researches bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic diseases of marine and freshwater fish, as well as shellfish diseases, diseases caused by nutrition, diseases related to environmental factors, zoonotic agents, fish immunology, and molecular techniques for disease research. Both theoretical and practical applications are carried out to develop these topics.

The Diseases Department has a Fish Diseases and Microbiology laboratory where A-type and Thesis Projects supported by the University’s Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit are conducted. It also provides internship opportunities for students from other universities’ Aquaculture Faculties. The department also assists with disease diagnosis requests from the private sector. The goal of the Diseases Department is to continuously improve its laboratory infrastructure with new projects and to educate graduates capable of meeting the industry’s needs through undergraduate and graduate programs.
