HISTORY

Akdeniz University, Faculty of Fisheries, was established by the Council of Ministers Decision No. 98/11641 dated August 12, 1998. In accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 on Higher Education, as amended by Law No. 2880, the Department of Basic Fisheries Sciences and Inland Waters Biology were established within our Faculty in 1999, and in 2000, the Departments of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Processing Technology, and Basic Fisheries Sciences, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Diseases, Fishing Technology and Processing Technology were established. In the 2001 academic year, our Faculty started offering Master’s program in the Department of Fisheries Engineering, followed by the undergraduate program in the 2002-2003 academic year, and the doctoral program in 2005.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Our Faculty has moved to its new building with a closed area of 4600 m2, which was put into service in 2011, within the central campus. The central building of our Faculty includes 8 research laboratories, 1 aquarium unit, 2 aquaculture research and application units, 8 application laboratories, 1 conference hall, 13 undergraduate classrooms, and 2 graduate classrooms. With the research vessel named R/V AKDENİZ SU, which is 26.5 meters long and was acquired by our university at the end of 2007, the research and application facilities of the faculty have been enhanced. In addition, the planning works for the unit to be established in an area of 1702 m2 allocated to our Faculty in Beldibi, Kemer district, for the conduct of research and applied education are still ongoing.
